Rethinking Earth return from first principles
The Ferryall and Carryall platforms are built around a new method for Earth return that enables landing-pad precision with industry leading payload capacity. A two-phased re-entry approach reduces landing uncertainties and increases flights safety. The first phase is a deployable low ballistic heat shield that slows the vehicle to subsonic flight in the upper atmosphere. During the second phase of re-entry the vehicle transitions to autonomous aerial flight under a deployable single-surface paraglider wing. Onboard robotics control the paraglider to the landing location. The accuracy of landing and gentle re-entry maintains the vehicle integrity for multiple reflights.
